About Us
Hello, and welcome to our blog!
Starting with a brief history of us, we are both originally from small towns in midwest Illinois and met each other on our 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. After dating throughout high school and undergrad, we got married in June 2014. Since then, we have have both been busy balancing work/education with our personal life and trying to make the most of the time we get to spend with each other. After spending four years in Kansas City while Mitch finished medical school, we are now living in Coeur d'Alene, ID while Mitch is completing his Family Medicine residency. Through it all, we have enjoyed spending so many years together and growing closer every day!
We wanted to set up this website/blog so that all of our family, friends, and those interested in the outdoors can follow along with us as we start a new chapter in our lives. We also wanted to have a way to share and store our memories so we can one day look back and remember some of the amazing adventures we were able to experience. Both of us being busy with our careers and extremely hectic schedules, we take full advantage of the little down time we have. We hope that the many memories we share with you and the information we provide in Our Adventures Blog will inspire busy folks like us to make the most of their leisure time!
Additionally, now starting his Family Medicine residency, Mitch hopes to share some of his exciting (and not so exciting) situations he encounters during his final step of his medical education through Mitch's Residency Blog. Follow along as he shares what life is like as a resident and how excited he is to start his career in Family Medicine!
Finally, we wanted to create a platform for us to stay connected with our friends and family and keep them updated about all of the happenings in our small family. While social media is a great way to stay connected, it is hard to convey full thoughts and feelings through a short Facebook post or 140 character Tweet (BTW, this is the perfect opportunity to shamelessly plug our social media accounts for the blog. Hi, and thanks for reading!
I am originally from a small town in midwest Illinois called Avon, and my immediate family currently resides in the nearby community of Macomb, IL. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in the sciences, and after several academic experiences I finally decided that medicine was the career path I wanted to pursue! I finished medical school at the University of Missouri Kansas City and went on to start residency at Kootenai Family Medicine.
Throughout my life I have loved exploring outside and enjoying all that nature has to offer. Over the past couple years, I have tried to push us to be a little more adventurous with our endeavors and try more challenging and remote hikes and trips! I have put together a few posts in the blogs to highlight some of our early learning experiences and the hikes that got us started. I hope that you enjoy reading about our triumphs (and sometimes, epic failures) as we continue to explore the great outdoors! I also hope that you all enjoy reading about life as a resident and the highs and lows every resident experiences during a very challenging, but exciting, time in our lives!

Hey! Welcome to our little corner of the internet! I grew up in small town Illinois and moved to the "big city" of Edwardsville, IL for college at Southern Illinois University. Little did I know I'd make my way to the much bigger (actual) cities of St. Louis and Kansas City after graduation. After a long year of studying and working full-time, I got my CPA license in 2015 and I was more than happy to be able to put schoolwork behind me!
I love reading, exercising, binge watching Netflix, (mostly) healthy eating, and adventuring with Mitch and Albert. Our hiking adventures have already taken us to both sides of the country, and a few places in between, and I can't wait to add even more destinations to our "been there" list! I hope you enjoy following along with us and learning a little bit about our lives and things we're loving along the way!

Dog, Best Companion Ever!
We adopted Albert at Great Plains SPCA Shelter in Merriam, KS in 2015, and we have been truly blessed to have such an amazing dog in our lives! We originally went to the shelter looking for a young, female dog but became so attached to Albert after meeting him that we fortunately took him home instead. His hobbies include playing fetch, snuggling under a blanket on the couch, and going on adventures with Mom and Dad!
